National Civil Rights Museum, Memphis

Jacqueline Smith has been protesting the National Civil Rights Museum for 30+ years, since her eviction from the Lorraine Motel to make room for the museum. Smith believes the millions spent on the museum would be better spent on furthering the work of Dr. King rather than immortalizing his death. Dr. King is not in that building, she told me, and, I think she is correct. One interesting fact I learned was that when former President Jimmy Carter visited the museum, he refused to enter and instead stood for photographs with Jacqueline. I'm glad I stopped to talk with her and didn't go in the museum, following what I learned to be the steps Jimmy Carter took as well.
